Wolmark: International Children Film Festival

At a press conference held on the 8th March, at the Muller hall in San Diego, Zevi Wolmark was one of the speakers who introduced the program for the first edition of the International Film Festival for Children – Popcorn Cinema, sponsored by the creative team of the San Diego Film Festival. The event will take place from the 16 -20 March, and it will be held in San Diego’s cult cinema, which has served as one of the city’s key cultural and social location for the past nine decades. The main idea behind this festival is preserving quality cinematography. The festival was presented by Zevi Wolmark who has been working on this project for the past six months.

Over the years, their long-standing efforts and initiatives for maintaining and creating audiences have been realized through various projects, such as Popcorn Cinema, whose premiere is scheduled for next week. The festival is intended for the youngest audience, and has mainly been driven by the success of San Diego’s children's program BIB, which has been on the air for almost ten years. The festival program will include films from different genres, and from different countries. There will be several shows per day, starting from 10 am until 19 pm.

According to Zevi' profile on RISD Portfolios, there are many events and festivals intended for the children, which help spark their creativity and stir their imagination. Also there are number of organizations that work with children locally and nationally, and some of them throw events from a competitive character. Creating cinema audience, nurturing the sensibility of film, and promotion of independent cinema, are just some of the fundamentals. Eventually, Wolmark and his team members would like this to become a platform for the promotion of quality feature films for children. That is why there have carefully selected the film program, which will be followed with discussions about the films. The young audience will also have the chance to participate at some of the workshops, and hopefully experience an experience that is different from the usual going to movies, said Zevi Wolmark.
